Membership Report
Membership continues to significantly increase from 157 at beginning of year to 214 currently. This is the largest membership in AzONE’s history.
Statewide Clinical Student Capacity & Experience
AzONE sponsored three forums to get assess the current situation and identify key issues related to the experience of students in the clinical setting as well as the capacity constraints within the state. The forums were held in Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Tucson. From these forums, the AzONE Board identified three common themes and will appoint a Steering Council that will seek membership for three task forces to further evaluate the issues and develop recommendations for improvement. The three concepts identified for a state-wide approach are:
- The need to create standards for clinical scenario development and training that can be used in simulated environments or not, to promote collaboration and portability of scenarios and knowledge.
- Using Benner’s model of novice-to-expert, create and pilot a clinical preceptor model that utilizes competent and/or proficient preceptors in consultation with expert clinicians.
- Work with nursing schools to standardize goals and objectives for clinical rotations.
Nurse Practice Act
AzONE representatives participated on a task force to review the Arizona Nurse Practice Act and made specific a recommendation to revise the statutes to allow for innovative pilots for patient-care delivery and training. This recommendation, among others, has been incorporated into the changes that will move forward. AzONE
